Have you ever accidentally stumbled across a genius idea or way of doing something completely out of the blue? Or maybe you’ve been doing a hobby or a chore for so long that you’ve simply found a more efficient or clever way of doing it. Either way – it’s such a satisfying feeling, right?
As it turns out, there’s a whole world out there of people who really, really love their sneakers. And the creases that appear on the toe? Apparently, that’s just unacceptable. Well, a woman who happens to be an avid sneaker enthusiast found a way to remove those creases and when she shared it online? It went crazy viral.
People all over the world spend hundreds of dollars and wait hours outside stores for limited edition Nikes or Adidas. So, it only makes sense to want to keep them looking like new for as long as possible.
Shantel De Bonsu is responsible for the viral Twitter hack that sent ‘sneakerheads’ into a total frenzy.
Shantel is from Bexleyheath, UK and she recently sat down to speak with Bored Panda about her genius trainer crease hack she shared. But first, she explained where her passion for nice sneakers comes from.
“When I was younger my school used to have quite a few non-uniform days and I’d always come to them with the same shoes,” she explained. “No one else ever did, which was hard for me because I love shoes but was never able to get as many as I wanted. So I told myself that when I’m older with some money, I’ll get myself more shoes and help those who’d like to get more shoes by sharing discount codes or simply reminding people that there’s a sale.”
As it turns out, Shantel actually learned the hack from a friend. And despite all the positive feedback about her post, there are always negative people out there.
“There’s always that group of people in the world who have something negative to say even when what is being shown is to help you,” she said. “I’m happy with the reactions because now my name is out there a bit more and I’ve managed to help a lot of people who didn’t know about the hack and that makes me happy.”
She wants people to know that she wasn’t ‘bragging’ or being overly weird or protective of her shoes. She just cares about certain ones and decides to take the time to make sure they stay in good condition.
“There are many people who love their shoes. I have shoes that I don’t really care about that aren’t expensive, eg. my work shoes or running shoes so I wouldn’t bother reviving them. But when it comes to shoes that are expensive and you’ve bought for the fashion it’s only right you take time to look after them so they last longer.”
So, how exactly do you accomplish this seemingly magical sneaker-crease trick? All you’ll need are some old socks, a small towel, an iron, and hot water.
Shantel’s shared hack has been retweeted over 132,000 times and liked over 340,000 times – clearly, it’s a hack that people are finding very useful! The steps are really quite simple.
Don’t you just love when the simplest tricks provide such joy and happiness to your life?
All it takes is just a few minutes to remove those toe creases from your brand new Nikes.
You’ll want to be careful with this next step!
Shantel asked her followers to share photos of their before and after, after trying her trick. And as it turns out? It really does work!
Well, the proof is definitely in the pudding! Watch Shantel’s full tutorial in her YouTube Video below.
